Thinking of things to be thankful for in November, the chorus of this hymn seems appropriate. Children often sing the chorus alone, the words are a challenge and it’s a good thing to count our blessings and give thanks to God for them.

When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

for my family’s recovery from the dreaded ‘flu. Jonathan and Becky recovered pretty quickly, Andy has taken a while longer- he had a high fever for a few days last week and as he has Asthma recovers slowly from respiratory illnesses.

for rest and sleep. I’m the kind of person who goes through periods of insomnia. I’m thankful at the moment for sleeping well – daily life is less wearing after sleep.The right amount of sleep is a blessing to be thank God for.

Psalms 4:8 I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Proverbs 3:24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.

Flu

….or some other viral illness. Becky felt ill on Wednesday- raised temperature, sore throat, aches, pains and fatigue; Jonathan succumbed on Friday. I know there’s loads in the media about “Swine flu” but almost every illness with accompanying fever > 38C is now assumed to be Swine flu. Thankfully with a combination of Paracetamol and Ibuprofen they’ve coped with the illness thus far.

Becky’s on the mend as she’s chatting incessantly. She talks to herself if there’s nobody to talk to.
