One of my children asked me what one of these was a few years ago, it’s very familiar to me but he hadn’t a clue what it was for. I told him it was a public phone box.
Why do you need a public phone box?
They’re there to use in an emergency. But why? Not everyone has a mobile phone . Amazement!
The conversation continued a bit like this, I told him that mobile phones were relatively new, in 1990 they were about the size of a brick and were fitted to some cars. They then became a little smaller until they’re now pocket sized and far more complicated.
I then went on to tell him that when I was little , a verrrry long time ago, my parents had neither a television nor a land line phone, I think he thought I was born hundreds of years ago, he was absolutely astonished.
I wonder what things will be museum items when my children are older.

I remember when I was young I had friends who had a Video Recorder…..
Wow
They were really impressive. Able to actually record TV and watch it over… that was so amazing!!
I sometimes think it’s scary the rate technology is moving.
I think it’s really scary, whatever will the boffins think of next – I’m married to one !
There is someone’s home which we drive past when we go to visit Tim’s Mum and they have a one of those red telephone boxes in their garden – not only that; they have a mannequin inside the box which they dress up in different outfits every week! How strange! At Christmas the mannequin was obviously Santa, and apparently in June, they have a tennis outfit on!?!
