Tomorrow after the evening service at church we travel to visit my family in South Wales. We’ve been able to visit at the New Year several times. It’s great to see my family and friends I grew up with. My sister usually has friends for a get together on New Years’ Eve.
We’re hoping to go for a walk, we usually go for a fairly long walk when we visit my family in South Wales after Christmas. We did the same walk last year but unfortunately got lost, unusual as my husband is an excellent map-reader and walk-planner.The 10 mile walk extended to about 14 miles, the last 4 being in completely the wrong direction, it was dark too. The path was behind the water fall Sgwd yr Eira but in the dim light it wasn’t visible . We managed to avoid calling the Mountain Rescue Team, that would have been so embarassing. We eventually arrived at a village, a very kind man took my husband to our car.
We have some great memories of my husband’s walks. We’ve climbed up Pen Y Fan, in the Brecon Beacons, in the snow, the snow was knee-high in places! It was only when we got back that my husband said that if he’d known how deep the snow was we wouldn’t have done the walk. I confess the children and I did moan a fair bit, I’m 5ft 4 ins short, the children less, my husband is 6ft, he has long legs, we have short legs! When I think back it was fun and a wonderful memory, but at the time……….:( I’ll post some pictures at a later date.
Update, unfortunately the Waterfall walk is inaccessible so Plan B is to do a walk from my parents home.
We also go to a great out of town shopping centre nearby , there aren’t any similar places in Worcestershire.

Oh – Sgwd yr Eira looks such a wonderful place! It looks a bit similar to a local forest park we love to go to.

The walk with your hubby sounds a bit like us – I’m 5ft 4 also…. Tim is almost 6 ft and I’m always having to run to catch up with him!
It’s beautiful, amazing that you can walk behind the waterfall.
