When I mentioned to my mum-in law about Reformation Day, she was really thrilled, she loves history. One of my father-in law’s relatives was a martyr for his faith in the 1500’s.
His name is mentioned in Fox’s Book Of Martyrs. I’m going to include the quote about him but not his name to protect my parents-in -law and family’s privacy. I was amazed to think that centuries later some of this man’s family are still faithfully walking with the Lord, it proves the quote “the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church”.
“When chained to the stake he embraced the fagots, and said, “Oh, ye papists, behold! ye look for miracles; here now may you see a miracle; for in this fire I feel no more pain than if I were in bed; for it is as sweet to me as a bed of roses.” Thus he resigned his soul into the hands of his Redeemer.”
He is also reported to have died with a copy of Tyndale’s New Testament in English in his hand and Tyndale’s The Obedience of a Christian Man in his bosom.
The Lord will build His church, the gates of hell will not prevail against it, what an assurance!
