Recently I’ve been thinking about the local church and how many parts make up the whole “body”. God calls His people together , we’re all different but all necessary parts of the local church where God has called us. We need to be so thankful for the variety of gifts God has given within the local church. It’s all too easy to envy others or think of ourselves as more important instead of submitting to one another in the fear of God.
I read recently from a devotional reading by Robert Murray M’Cheyne , its title
Patient Submission
Resignation to God’s will is a very sweet grace: it can only be cultivated here, it is a flower that grows on the earth- it will not bloom yonder. It is much easier to go about a whole lifetime preaching, ……… than to be patient under sickness. there are many saints who suffered much upon earth, now shining the brightest in glory; just because they glorified God more than others by their patient submission.
There are many frail, elderly and disabled believers who are a wonderful example just by being . They are faithful in prayer and are an example to others from their home chair or bed , they can’t get up easily and rush around doing practical things but God uses their lack of physical activity for His glory. They are being faithful where God has placed them just as much as thoseĀ who can and do rush around. We’re not to be weary in doing good but the Bible also tells us to be still. I have found it can be dangerous to be a ‘rush around’ believer- (although I fully advocate the working church mentality) because we can neglect to take the time to pray and read and ‘be quiet’. For each season there are spheres of service and we are never more blessed than when we are faithfully in them. I agree, some of the greatest prayer warriors that I know are the elderly, infirm of physically limited.
[...] 2008 by Ann I’ve written about believers who are frail, elderly and disabled previously here and here. I read earlier this week here about a man who has a ministry of encouragement. So many [...]
